Budget Before You Book

Congratulations! You’re engaged! Now what?

Planning a wedding can be stressful and your stress is warranted. However, in this new blog series, Budget Before You Book, we touch on creating your budget and helping you stick to it and avoid unwanted surprises down the road.

How Much is that Pinterest Wedding?!

Communication is key. If you’re like most newly engaged girls, the first thing you do is create that Pinterest board. If everyone could afford the Pinterest wedding of their dreams, I would be rich. My advice is to sit down with everyone who plans to contribute funds to the cost of the wedding and determine the total dollars available before booking anything.

What’s Your Style

First, discuss the style and feel of your wedding.  Are you a “southern chic” couple or a “modern and moody” pair? What do you want your guest to experience? Deciding this together now will help you avoided arguments about this as planning progresses.

Then, prioritize what is most important to you, “As a couple”.   Select the 3 most important aspects of your wedding. Keeping in mind the three key vendors that will require most of your budget; The Venue, which you normally pick first and will dictate/reflect the style of your wedding, Catering/bar - you have to feed them, right?, and Flowers.

One Size Does Not Fit All

Your wedding party. Your dearest friends and family. Remember that not everyone close to you has to be at the altar on your wedding day. Obviously, fewer is less expensive. There are other important roles those close to you can play on your wedding day.

The Perfect Number

The easiest way to control the budget is to limit your guest count. Easier said than done, I know. Be sure to check out our blog next week on this topic.
